Welcome to Handoff. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with any part, please don't use the service.
1. Who can use Handoff
Handoff is for verified college students. You must be at least 18, currently enrolled at a participating campus, and able to verify your identity with a valid .eduemail address. We don't knowingly accept signups from anyone who isn't a student, and we reserve the right to remove any account that misrepresents itself.
2. What Handoff is — and isn't
Handoff is a marketplace that connects students subleasing their housing with other students looking for short-term housing. Handoff itself is nota landlord, a broker, or a property manager. We don't take possession of money, sign leases, verify property condition, or guarantee any aspect of a transaction between users.
Every sublease is a private agreement between two students. We strongly recommend you read your master lease, get your landlord's permission to sublet, and get any sublease agreement in writing before money changes hands.
3. Listings
When you create a listing, you're responsible for its accuracy. Don't post properties you can't legally sublease, photos you don't have rights to, or prices you don't actually charge. We may remove any listing that we believe violates these terms or any applicable law, at our discretion and without notice.
4. Handoff requests
When you send or accept a handoff request, you're committing in good faith to communicate with the other party. Once both sides accept, contact info is revealed. Any agreement, payment, or move-in logistics happen entirely outside of Handoff.
5. Prohibited conduct
- Posting false, misleading, or fraudulent listings
- Discrimination on the basis of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or any protected class
- Harassment, threats, or hate speech directed at other users
- Scraping, reverse-engineering, or building competing tools using Handoff data
- Using the platform to commit fraud or any illegal activity
6. Liability
Handoff is provided "as is." To the maximum extent permitted by law, Handoff and its operators aren't liable for any damages arising from your use of the service, including disputes between you and another user, lost deposits, property damage, or anything else that happens off-platform.
7. Termination
You can close your account at any time from your profile page. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Upon termination your listings are removed; your data may be retained as required by law.
8. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms occasionally. Material changes will be announced via email and an in-app notice. Continued use of Handoff after changes take effect means you accept them.
